Overview

MSc in Geomatics Engineering

Motivation and Competence

Motivation

Acquisition, analysis, management and interpretation of data collected for the system "Earth", its atmosphere and its hydrosphere, and the manifold of interactions nowadays is an essential requirement for solid economical development. In addition to the obvious ecological aspects the aforementioned activities also have implications for urban and regional planning, protection of property, traffic-control systems as well as facility management.

Geomatics engineering – GEOENGINE – is concerned with the acquisition, analysis, processing and presentation of spatial information, including value-adding to spatial data. It is based on general foundations in mathematics, physics and computer science. Applied subjects like representation of geo-data, positioning and navigation and geo-telematics are supported by sound theoretical foundations in theoretical geodesy, geo-methodologies and data acquisition.

Objectives

The objective of this program is to convey profound knowledge on the theory and modelling of geo-spatial data, where the transfer of pure factual knowledge is taken into the back. The program will qualify specialists who will – after returning to their home countries – be enabled to set up basic requirements for an infrastructure of geoinformatics in specific applications and to adapt the technology to the necessities of the respective economics.

Competence

Geomatics Engineers are professionals for advanced technologies for geospatial data acquisition and management. They are indispensable partners in urban planning, traffic management and sustainable economic development.
Therefore, the GEOENGINE Master program provides profound knowledge focused on positioning, navigation and telematics. As future executives in industry and research, graduates of this master program will also be proficient in the following:

  • Mastering state-of-the-art technology
  • Acquisition, administration and processing of geodata
  • Team management
  • Research in all fields of Geomatics Engineering
